Our refurbishment design for the A13 River Lea Crossing, for Road Management Services (A13) on behalf of Transport for London, is a finalist for the Bridges Sustainability Award at the Bridges 2025 Awards in March! With 14 years of data to back us up, we challenged the status quo of bridge replacement and motivated for refurbishing the 90 year old bridge, which was scheduled for replacement by 2030.
This will achieve:
- Nearly 50% reduction in embodied carbon emissions through material conservation
- 811 tonnes less steel requiring disposal
- 215 tonnes less new steel required
- 28% reduction in construction-related traffic emissions through reduced program duration
- Significantly reduced whole-life costs while maintaining structural integrity
