Hewson Consulting is a global, specialist SME civil, structural and geotechnical engineering design consultancy.

Focus on buildability
Early consideration of construction method and sequence is a crucial aspect of the design process. Our detailed knowledge of construction is derived from a long history of working with international contractors assisting them with erection engineering and temporary works designs. We therefore prioritise buildability, ensuring that our designs can be constructed safely and efficiently. A design that is easy to build will invariably also result in better quality, durability and sustainability.

Digital design
We invest heavily into training and implementation of digital design methods including Building information Modelling (BIM) and continue to be at the forefront of developing these tools to improve the design, construction and operation of infrastructure projects. We typically deliver models to BIM maturity level 2 (as defined in ISO 19650), but can also provide a wide range of digital design services including:
- Parametric design
- 4D modelling for construction simulation
- 3D reinforcement detailing and automated reinforcement scheduling
Advanced analysis
Our design philosophy blends proven experience from past projects with cutting-edge analysis techniques aimed at making our designs more efficient. We have a broad capability for advanced numerical analysis covering both structural and geotechnical design including:
- Dynamic/seismic analysis
- Energy dissipative structures

- 3D soil-structure interaction
Design for Manufacture & Assembly
We champion the use of DfMA including off-site construction of large structural elements and standardising complex geometry into modular units that can be produced in factories or on site. This approach, as part of our wider value engineering services, often results in substantial cost savings as well as improving quality, accelerating construction, de-risking the critical path, enhancing efficiency and enabling a safer site working environment.
