We were commissioned by the Trust to undertake an independent check on their design for a single 4.5m clear span traditional overhead balance beam lifting bridge. The deck structure is a stiffened orthotropic steel plate with integral cross girders and edge girders.

The bridge is founded on a piled raft which is integral with the canal walls over the width of the bridge.  We independently reviewed the ground investigation information and provided the Trust with comments on the structural and geotechnical design.

We worked proactively with the designer to resolve our comments in order to issue check certification for the structure.

Construction of the bridge commenced in 2022 but since the works were largely being undertaken by volunteers it was only completed in the autumn of 2023.
