Riverside EfW Facility in Kent is one of the UK’s most efficient energy recovery plants processing waste from households and businesses in Central London, as well as an important strategic waster management facility for the capital. With the capability to manage an average of 585,000 tonnes of residual waste annually.

We were appointed to assist Costain in assessing the design of the waste and ash bunkers for the temporary condition during the construction, which has not been considered by the permanent work designers. In order to minimize the requirements for strengthening of the works, we undertook complex 3D geotechnical analysis of the contiguous bored pile bunkers and of the integral adjacent piled foundations to which they were connected.  The approach allowed us to take advantage of the restraint offered by the pile caps connected to the capping beam.
