The existing Ashton Curzon Culvert had a history of flooding due to blockage and high ground at the outfall.  The structure is an oval masonry pipe with masonry headwalls and wing walls to the north and a concrete pipe extension to the south.  The outfall was extended with a 600mm diameter pipe connecting to new chambers to provide maintenance access on both sides of the Network Rail fence line.  The surrounding ground was re-graded to a max 1:2 slope.  The fence line was re-aligned to suit.   We carried out an investigation and designed the works to improve drainage.

We undertook an hydraulic study of the existing situation and confirmed the capacity of the improvement works is adequate.

We also designed temporary works to support the excavation during the works and assessed the wing walls for the temporary condition.
