The Reading viaduct was part of Network Rail’s overall Reading Area Development programme providing grade separation at a previous bottleneck between the Paddington to Penzance mainline services and freight services.
The project involved the construction of a series of railway viaducts, a number of other bridges and associated earthworks. The mainline and festival line viaducts comprised a series of twin 25m span continuous decks formed using precast Y-beams and in situ concrete slabs. At the crossovers, box structures and precast concrete roof slabs were used.
We also undertook the independent Category 3 check for all the structures and earthworks on the project
