Cross Bay Link is a 1.8km long highway corridor across the Junk Bay in Hong Kong, which provides much-needed improvement for the connectivity in the TKO area. It comprises a series of 75m long approach concrete viaducts, that are supported on specially-sculptured concrete V-piers.
We were appointed by the Main Contractor as their Designer to provide both the design and erection engineering services on this project.
We undertook the detailed design for 10No. iconic V-piers which support the main bridge as well as the approach viaducts. Our design adopted an innovative precasting solution which enabled the majority of the works to be completed off-site. The heaviest precast V- pier element weighs over 1500T.
We adopted similar precast solutions to simplify the erection of other major concrete elements such as the large-size precast wing walls.
