The Jamuna Bridge is a major river crossing carrying a dual carriageway expressway and a single track railway between Dhaka and North West Bangladesh. The bridge extends for 4.8km between the river banks with a prestressed concrete box girder deck with typical spans of 100m. Built in 1998, the bridge has suffered deterioration of the expansion joints, seismic restraints and concrete deck surface.

The Bangladesh Bridge Authority refurbished the bridge including placing a waterproof membrane and asphalt surfacing layer over the deck, replacing the expansion joints and modifying the seismic restraint system. Works also included sealing crack and installation of CFRP strengthening across the deck slab.

We provided consultancy services to BBA for the refurbishment, including the design of the deck strengthening along with other works and supervision.
