Year completed: Ongoing
Services: Detailed design

The HS2 route from West Ruislip to Euston includes 13 miles of twin-bore tunnels beneath London. We were engaged to provide temporary works design and checking services for Area West, covering multiple sites including the West Ruislip portal, Copthall Tunnel, and ventilation shafts at South Ruislip and Mandeville Road. Key elements included TBM launch preparations, soil treatment solutions, and support for cut-and-cover operations.
At West Ruislip, we supported the launch of the first two TBMs with designs for crane platforms, preassembly areas, and specialist lifting equipment. Our scope also included tower crane foundation designs within the portal, as well as a precast retaining wall system to retain the overburden fill at the portal entrance.
Due to programme constraints, we also designed a temporary soil treatment facility to process excavated material on-site and undertook a staged assessment of the concrete shaft lining at South Ruislip for construction plant loading. Our involvement later extended to the realignment of Harvil Road and activities next to the Chiltern Line, where we worked on temporary wall and platform solutions to support deep excavations and heavy plant operations.
