Hewson providing structural services at Holborn, London

Hewson are working with the Robert Bird Group in providing structural engineering advice on a 1906 eight-storey structural steelwork framed commercial office building which is supported by the existing London Underground Holborn Station and the tunnels below.

Built during the early nineteenth century, the form of construction used for the building common at the time, and with other buildings constructed contemporary with it elsewhere in London, was not robust enough to prevent water ingress and the subsequent corrosion of the steelwork, resulting in the phenomena “Regents Street Disease”.

Paul Perry, one of our associate directors here at Hewson Consulting Engineers, will be providing advice on a detailed survey, investigation, material testing and intrusive opening to examine the structural frame and steel connections of the building and subsequently assess its condition.
