Bryn Cowlyd water treatment works in North Wales has been shortlisted in the temporary works category of the 2017 British Construction Industry Awards.
The main feature of the project was a 60x 30m by 6m deep basement excavation in very difficult ground and groundwater conditions. Hewson supported Skanska’s in-house engineering team by undertaking detailed soil-structure interaction analysis to optimise the temporary works design and to ensure stability of the huge base of the excavation against heave and piping.
The result was a highly efficient sheet piled cofferdam that used the permanent piles to resist heave in the temporary condition. We would like to wish the team every success at the awards ceremony in October.
