First cable-supported bridges in Qatar successfully completed

30 April 2021

At the end of February the Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor fully opened to traffic in Qatar.  Amongst the numerous new bridge structures along the route were twin extradosed bridge structures, each with five cable-supported spans.  These are the first cable-supported bridge structures in Qatar.

We provided construction engineering services to main contractor CCC, working closely with them, sub-contractor VSL, and the Employer’s Representative Parsons.  This involved creating detail finite element models considering each stage of construction, which used the balanced cantilever method to erect the precast segmental decks.

In additional to checking stresses and stability through the works, we derived stage-by-stage deflections used for precambering of the segments and geometry control during segment erection for both extrdosed bridges, and four others on the route.
