Hong Kong Team Drives Innovation and Collaboration

Our Hong Kong team continues to champion innovation on the Lok Ma Chau ST01 viaduct project for the Civil Engineering and Development Department through successful implementation of ‘SPMT + Full-Span Erection Technology’. 

 This erection method is for use over the busy Fanling Highway and involves offline assembly of the precast deck segments into full span units which can then be moved as a single unit via self-propelled modular transporters and lifted up to the piers during nighttime carriageway closures. 

It is the first time that this solution has been implemented for a multi-span land viaduct in Hong Kong bringing significant benefits including enhanced construction safety and efficiency, minimised carbon emissions, and reduction in the need for traffic management on the public highway.  It is also the first pre-cast segmental viaduct in Hong Kong to use electrically insulated internal tendons for enhanced long-term durability.

We are very pleased to participate in the delivery of this project as the main contractor’s design consultant, providing permanent works design of the viaducts, erection engineering analysis and BIM modelling services. It is also a great demonstration of our commitment to collaborating with multiple parties to achieve successful project outcomes, this time including CEDD (the Client), AECOM (the Client’s Consultant and PM), CRBC (the Main Contractor), VSL (the specialist erection and prestressing sub-contractor) and Fortress (the specialist precasting sub-contractor).
