Piling in progress on DASH expressway, Malaysia

Foundation construction is well underway on the Damansara – Shah Alam (DASH) Elevated Expressway in Malaysia.  The new highway will be a 20.1km, three-lane elevated dual-carriage expressway running from Puncak Perdana U10 Shah Alam Interchange to the Penchala Interchange. Hewson were appointed to develop value-engineering alternative designs for the bridge works, to accommodate land acquisition constraints and target a more economic and efficient design.  This includes eight semi-integral prestressed bridge decks using precast beams and in-situ concrete decks, five types of post-tensioned T-piers constructed using balanced cantilever techniques, and three types of portal piers using a combination of temporary falsework and balanced cantilever methods. Construction kicked off last year with the cast in-situ piling of 2.8m and 3.2m diameter monopiles, (shown in the photo). At the same time, the precasters are progressing fabrication of beams and crosshead segments for the mainline bridges.
