A47 A11 Thickthorn Junction Improvement
Client: Skanska
Location: UK
Year completed: Ongoing
Services: Detailed design

The A47/A11 Thickthorn Junction Improvement is a major National Highways scheme designed to relieve congestion and improve connectivity at one of Norfolk’s busiest road junctions. The project provides a new single free flow link road connecting the A11 northbound to the A47 eastbound, and free flow filter lane from the A47 westbound off-slip to the A11 southbound. Traffic will be routed away from the junction and flowed under two new underpasses.
We are delivering temporary works design and checking services to the contractor, Skanska, as part of the improvement scheme located southwest of Norwich.
Our temporary works designs have included working platforms, sheet pile retaining walls and reinforced earth walls, required to allow construction of the new overbridge and underpass structures. We have produced Geotechnical Design Reports for National Highways’ approval, due to the close proximity of the temporary works to existing live traffic.
