Corporation Bridge Assessment and Strengthening

Client: Roughan & O’Donovan

Location:  England

Year completed:  2024

Services: Assessment, Independent Cat III checking

Corporation Bridge  is a Grade II listed early steel six-span rolling bascule bridge which opened in 1928.  We carried out the Category 3 check of the initial assessment and subsequent repair/strengthening of the lifting span arrangement. The bridge comprises one opening span (Scherzer rolling span), which we were responsible for checking, along with the track span (which the opening span rolls along) and the pit span (where counterweights slot into when the bridge is open).

The check was performed in two main stages: the initial assessment of the lifting arrangement in its as-built condition, and the assessment of the bridge in its current condition, accounting for the natural deterioration that has occurred to the bridge elements over the years.

After successfully delivering the first phase of the project, we were appointed for the Cat 3 check of the new orthotropic steel deck for the lifting span, as well as checking the concrete deck for all other spans.
