Crowle STW Working Platforms

Services: Detailed design

We were appointed by AFS to carry out detailed design of a working platform to be installed on very poor ground (<20kPa undrained shear strength). The platform was required to support piling rigs and a crane for construction of an extension to a Severn Trent Water treatment plant. The formation included ground improvement by cement stabilisation. We provided a specification of material properties and minimum depth of cement stabilisation to the existing soft clay/ alluvium.
PLAXIS 2D analysis was used to check the settlement / deflection of the weaker layers under the stabilised soils & obtain bearing capacity for plant loading. The overall change in pressure was negative so long term settlement was not critical.
A slope stability analysis was also carried out to check the platform edges and to confirm the safe exclusion distance for plant loading.
