We were appointed to undertake an independent check of the tunnels and earthworks for 133km of twin and single-track freight rail line from the Port of Fujairah inland through the Hajar mountains and up the coast to Khor Fakkan Port .

The scope included checking of designs by the Contracting Joint Venture for embankments, cuttings, portals and both main and escape tunnels.

The tunnels vary in length from 150m to over 4km and are mined through rock. The appointment included checking both preliminary and final lining, rock bolts to stabilize the rock face during mining and the connection between the main 14.63m diameter and 8.1m diameter escape tunnels.  In addition we checked embankments up to 28m in height and cuttings with depths of up to 50m,

The works included responding to design packages to meet the overall project and the construction programme.
