Eastern Garvoge Bridge
Client: Sligo County Council
Location: Ireland
Year completed: Ongoing
Services: Detailed design

We were appointed to carry out the detailed design of the Eastern Garvoge Bridge to the east of Sligo Town. The bridge will improve access to key education and healthcare services in the area, reduce traffic congestion in the town, and provide more opportunities for active travel by Sligo residents.
We proposed major changes to the specimen design early in the process, in order togreatly improve access for inspection and maintenance. The design considers how the bridge will be constructed and maintained, with allowance for temporary works loads in the design.
Wind tunnel testing was undertaken to verify the stability of the single arch member located in the central reserve.
The deck structure was optimised resulting in a clear load path from the precast deck panels to the arch tie member via tapered plate girders.
Construction is expected to commence later in 2026.
