Services: Construction engineering, detailed design

We were appointed as the temporary works designer for the construction of a new 176m long three-span bridge across the River Ness. We designed two in-river working platforms from three layers of dumpy bags and the single walled sheet piled cofferdams which were required for the construction of the bridge piers on spread footings. In order to allow all construction plant to access the in-river working platforms, three temporary bailey bridges were also required.

The shape of the concrete deck was formed using panels of permanent formwork between the girders and consoles of RMD cantilever formwork system for the deck cantilever section. We were involved in the design for the stability of the formwork and overall stability of the steel structure during the concrete deck pour. Checks were also carried out on lifting lugs to lift and assemble steel girders and braced pairs of girders with auxiliary equipment (cantilever formwork and permanent glass reinforced formwork).
