The new MRT system in Jakarta is Indonesia’s first, providing much-needed relief to the existing road network by offering an alternative transport mode through the city.
We provided detailed structural design for 4.7km of bridge works and four stations along package CP103 on the Red Line phase 1. At Blok M station the tracks diverge from two to three, enabling services to terminate at the station and providing flexibility in scheduling. The other three stations, at Haji Nawi, Blok A, and Sisingamangaraja, are of similar form with the viaducts running straight through.
Structural form reflects this and accommodates the busy road below. The concrete structure from ground to concourse level spans the road, whilst supporting three viaduct box girders above. These in turn support platform structures between the tracks, and a stressed-fabric roof above. At concourse level precast concrete was maximized to accelerate construction and minimize disruption to the road below. The roof structure combined with open-sided stations at track level provide a spacious and well-ventilated platform. Four entrance structures extending from the concourse level provide transit to and from street level, and direct access to the adjacent Blok M Plaza.
