The main works under this project comprise a new land reclamation of approximately 3 hectares at Junk Bay area and an 800m long dual two-lane highway including 200m of the depressed carriageway covered by landscape deck. The reclamation is carried out by using dredging and filling method and a temporary cofferdam is erected around the perimeter of the entire working area as an environmental protection measure to mitigate potential pollution to sea water. Large ELS is installed on the reclaimed land for bulk excavation and construction of the depressed road.

Hewson Consulting were appointed to undertake the independent design checking for the contractor’s design of permanent works and temporary works, which include the piled foundations, the RC depressed road structures, the temporary marine cofferdam, the temporary Watergate, the ELS systems on newly reclaimed land and various heavy-duty working platforms.
