Shortlist hat trick for our Carnwath Road shaft redesign for Tideway London!

We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that our Carnwath Road shaft redesign for Balfour Beatty/Morgan Sindall/BAM Joint Venture on behalf of Tideway London has been shortlisted for the 3rd time – this time for NCE Tunneling Awards 2024 in the category “Innovation in Shaft Design and Construction”!

Our redesign of the critical shaft, 25m in diameter and 42m deep and situated on the banks of the River Thames at Fulham, accelerated the programme by 6 months, reduced risks, decreased carbon footprint, and saved approx. £5m by integrating temporary works into the permanent design through the use of precast concrete elements.

As far as we know, it is the first time encasement of multistorey structural steel transfer trusses encased in reinforced concrete has been used in a tunnel shaft. You can read more about this project here and see the full shortlist here.
